The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken

BY
Robert Forest

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves, no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

what if...

This is something that I always talk about, maybe every day, every minute when I have very enough time to think about many possibilities that can happen if I do something that different than I took now.

So, this poem is very famous. created by Robert frost, inspired by his friend, Edward Thomas who, when out walking with Frost in England would often regret not having taken a different path. Thomas would sigh over what they might have seen and done, and Frost thought this quaintly romantic.

 "No matter which road you take, you'll always sigh and wish you'd taken another," says Frost to Thomas.

I can imagine, autumn with yellow leaves along the street, and there's a forking road. The atmosphere of poem that makes me feel unsure. The yellow color can symbolize a middle color, something that ambiguous. something in between

I think this poem is not about taking the road that is less traveled. It's not about being unique that takes a road that not many people are interested in through it.

For me, the road not taken is about choices in life. I always have regret and wondering some better luck if I took a different road. I cannot travel on both of the roads. I must pick one. And maybe, if I grew and grew to become old, sometimes I will contemplate about the road not taken by that time.

In this poem, he says

"Then took the other, just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,"

It's a different road, maybe with the same destination. So why do I choose, if at the end of the day, what I receive is the same? What makes a difference is a process. The process that I receive when I  through the road. Maybe on another road, I will meet a river with freshwater, but after it, I will meet a ravine and fall into it. And on another road, I will meet another happiness and danger. So, just enjoy it. It's not like to enjoy something  is easy. But, take it as it comes. I will forget about regret that I do not choose another choice in life.

many climbers often say  the summit is just a bonus.
